"The Hashtag"
Potato corn beef scramble w/ sunny egg
We stopped in for a quick bite on the weekend. The restaurant is fairly easy to find and there is a parking garage in that same area, street parking etc. It's a decent sized space with a nice, clean aesthetic. I was greeted as soon as we came in and took a seat. I was looking forward to a 2 egg omelette made with Taylor Ham and cheese with whatever sides came with it, but unfortunately I was told "There is NO space on their cooktop or in their restaurant where eggs or an omelette can be made on a non cross contaminated surface". (I have Celiacs Disease by the way).
The beef chili was more beef than soup or chili and was extremely bland and oily. The salad as well was really not something worth paying for or driving to a restaurant for. I could have made both at home, better, and for a fraction of the price. My husband ordered "The Hashtag", which was a corn beef scramble. In his opinion, it actually wasn't much food. He felt it could have been double the portion size, but he thought it tasted great.
I wasn't offered any other options like we can just cook your eggs in a pan or anything like that to avoid cross contamination. I was just told you can have soup and salad. This was highly disappointing because this was a pretty simple request. So, I ordered the soup of the day, beef chili, and a salad with tuna and deviled eggs. Needless to say, both were extremely underwhelming.
The gluten free salad option
Balsamic dressing (did not seem like it was made in house)
Iceberg lettuce
Cucumber
Tomato
"deviled eggs" they had a lot of mayo
The waiter seemed to not grasp that if they were saying they couldn't make an omelette or anything for me that it would contain gluten. He kept saying, "But we have gluten-free bread and toast." That's cool, but it doesn't actually help if the space is contaminated, and I explained I had Celiac Disease beforehand.
In general, you could get a better breakfast at any First Watch in Florida in my opinion (or many other local non chain restaurants), and they can not only make gluten-free food but have dedicated space for cooking for people with Celiacs Disease and other dietary restrictions. Also, their food is well seasoned.
Anyway, the bill was 45$ for a soup, salad, cappuccino, and my husband's dish " The Hashtag". This place would be great for anyone with no dietary restrictions (the menu looks great, but it isn't gluten friendly); It's lacking for us, though.
