We dined in at Vela Italian Tavern on opening day. The restaurant is located in Westshore Marina District, where the Cru Cellars restaurant used is to be. This is a new restaurant concept by the same owner of Cru Cellars, Boozy, and Small Giant on Water Street. Vela has indoor and outdoor seating. The decor is nice with a simple, clean aesthetic with an open bar and wine wall. It basically still looks exactly the same as before.

The menu is small, offering appetizers, salads, and entrées. They also have pizzas and pastas (gluten-free penne is available). It also looks like they have lasagna on the weekend.
You can find the menu below.

Overall, we had a great experience. The food was fresh and tasted great. I was very, very happy they had gluten-free pasta. The octopus carpaccio was absolutely delicious and I would highly recommend it. The octopus is cooked and sliced in super thin layers. It is layered with olive oil, sea salt I presume and some other spices. It is presented with a charred lime to squeeze on the top which really sets off the flavor. It is highly favorable with savory, acidy, and even some umami flavors in my opinion from the Octopus.

Octopus Carpaccio * Gluten-free

Cesar salad* Gluten free with no croutons

The entrees were delicious and hearty. It was cool that I was in the mood for Italian and hubs was in the mood for Mediterranean and we were able to get that in the same place. The pasta and kabobs were cooked exactly to our liking and the Bofonegse had that nice rich flavor that you look for in the sauce and meat combo.

Kabobs, which come with a grilled pita, Hummus, Greek salad, and Tzatziki.*Gluten free without the pita

The (gluten free) Penne Bolegnese

The macarons *Gluten-free

Finale

We indulged a bit on the almond flour macarons. You get three different flavors, pistachio, raspberry, and chocolate. One of these you will love.
