KURŌ Sushi of Lakewood Ranch hosted a Grand Opening Block Party this week that featured a tuna cutting, live performances, a VIP Buffet, and all kinds of fun. Now you know my husband and I and we love a good party with lots of music and food!

Now, on the VIP buffet, there were a lot of options to choose from, and thankfully, some gluten-free options for me! I can't wait to come back and try the regular menu. Kurō is the sister restaurant to JPAN & KORÊ which hello, are featured in my current food tour "That's So Sarasota". Be sure to check it out.

I usually steer clear of buffets under most circumstances due to my having Celiac Disease. I was not aware this party was going to be a buffet style setting. I do believe a lot of these items are being served tonight just for this party (because I haven't seen them on the regular men) and so I needed to find out what was gluten-free. Once I did that I was ready to rock out and indulge on these specialty oysters. I had been craving oysters so much the last four weeks and so tonight I had as many as I wanted until I couldn't have anymore!

The oysters were actually my favorite thing I ate. The had a clean fresh taste with a slight melon finish and the mignonette rhey prepared was a great marriage of sweet, salty, and acid.

These items did contain gluten so I don't know how they were.

Cocktail: AIZEN

This was very good and cute/pretty.

The second thing that I LOVED was the fried rice. I was so glad this was gluten-free and there was an abundance of it. If you have ever been to JPAN and ordered their fried rice you will know it is so delicious and GF. So, I knew this would be good and it didnt just taste the same as the fried rice at the other restaurant. It had a light and kind of healthy-ish taste and a lot of toasted sesame oil which made it stand out as being very different. This one had chicken in it as well and I loved it.

The best parts of the tuna. There wasn't really time or a way to arrange this in a nice way since there was a line, but although it seems plain this would cost a lot in any restaurant.  So, we also had this in abundance as well.

Overall, this was a very fun party. There was a lot going on outside and the mood was just very nice. I actually love the menu here and can't wait to come back and try the omakase and the wagyu pho after the holidays.
