Thursday evening I was invited to a closed party at The Dann which is located in the Floridan Palace in Tampa's Downtown. You may remember my brief staycation at the Floridan Palace last Summer (here & here). During that stay I got to dine at the hotel restaurant the Sapphire Room. The Floridan Palace is Tampa's only historic high rise hotel that has been open for decades and has hosted many celebrities as well as U.S Presidents and positions and those in the military. From what I hear the place to be was the Sapphire Room. Well, as of May 2023 the Sapphire Room is no longer and we have now entered the age of "The Dan", a modern take on the Speakeasy.
Now called just The Dan, this space on the first floor of the Floridan Palace has had a major renovation. What once was is now a bright, open, classy and upscale space with subtle nods to the history of the Sapphire Room as well as the "Roaring 20's"
It is quite remarkable that it has not even been a year since I last visited this space you can look at these blog posts to see and compare the differences.
Upon entering you are transformed by the party going on, at least for tonight, no expense seems to have been spared. along with a "red carpet" and check in, I was immediately greeted by a person with a fabulously strong Champagne cocktail. If you. didn't have a drink in your hand someone was there ready to hand you one in minutes. The overhaul of the bar includes a new lighter bar top, updated wood, LED lights, as well as cheeky wall paintings of naughty monkeys (some holding brassieres) and a very large mural of a 20's Flapper.

Once inside, we feasted on an elaborate seafood spread of cocktail shrimp, oysters, caviar, bay scallops and lobster.

The Dan will have a full lunch and dinner menu after they open which you can find here. The cuisine will balance local ingredients with classic dishes and will include raw oysters, steaks and seafood.
