Its always bittersweet when you go to a restaurant that you have frequented for years and see service on the decline... Its been a good 4 months since we had been back to Roy's because our last 3 times we had been there service was lackluster and sometimes horrible. We have been pretty loyal frequent customers since we had moved to South Tampa and had gotten to know a lot of the people that worked there and made some friends.

Unfortunately, right now, there has been a lot of turnover and the service is way on the decline. The restaurant in general is always dark and empty if they aren't hosting a business party or family party some days. The newer employees that I have interacted with don't seem to really give a damn about service or quality off food.

I am starting off with the photos that originally went with this date. Like many of my posts, these were taken earlier in the year and the post got bumped due to more important time critical posts. On this night the old Chef was still at Roy's and he made me this dish. It was a vegetarian dish that was listed on the Roys website, but in the restaurant  it was not on the menu which I didn't know. Our waiter convinced him to make it and add shrimp. This was a great dish and it was the last quality meal I had there.

Fast forward 6 months later: We came into an empty restaurant once again only one other couple was dining. This is a usual most days of the week. On this night, my very first drink I ordered had a fly in it; the bartender didn't notice. My orders are usually pretty simple- grilled shrimp, rice, a green veggie. The management  even have it notated on my file- a file none of the newer people ever check which also has my dietary restrictions. So, I have pretty much been kicking the can down the road giving this place chance after chance and tonight they served me not only raw shrimp, but they were rancid and smelled like pure ammonia. When I told the acting manager he did not look like he cared, but he surely wasn't about to smell them. They were noticeably gray and uncooked to the eye. Like, come on- did the person who plated that even care? I personally can't over look something like that. I am already pretty weak due to having autoimmune diseases and honestly, if I had not caught that and eaten it I would have ended up in the hospital and they brushed it off like it was no big deal.

Y'all please don't believe these sponsored posts that are popping up about this restaurant. I have eaten at Roy's and posted more photos and positive reviews of Roy's than any other restaurant  ever on my blog and social media. None were sponsored or even solicited . I just liked the restaurant a lot and because of that I feel that I am compelled to talk about what happened on my last visit in September 2019. I did complain in the restaurant and I was pretty much placated, I did write a review stating I was served raw rancid seafood, and I did reach out to corporate with a formal complaint. Roy's is under new management  and I did not hear back from the new Chef Sean who is also the owner and Partner of that location.

They have gone into overdrive working with Instagrammers to promote their restaurant and their food, but didn't actually try to rectify what happened with my visit (other than removing the inedible items from my bill when I told them the food was past its expiry date) and a lot of the staff are aware that I am a blogger. Morally, I can not not say anything knowing how much I promoted this restaurant  in the past. Its been going downhill for a little while now, for example, last year I ordered a Cesar salad and added grilled chicken (its on the menu) and I was told "We don't serve chicken breast on Thursdays". WTF- and this was the same acting manager who gave me the raw rancid shrimp. I wish I had gotten a photo of the shrimp they served me because they whisked it away with a quickness because they know I take photos of everything. My love affair with this local restaurant is CANCELLED.

Every location is different I may add. For instance, I have eaten at the Roys in Orlando and they all have different menus etc. I believe its more of like a franchise from what some of the waiters have told me so this incident is just for the Tampa Roy's and not indicative of all Roy's restaurants.

*UPDATE 2/14/2010 ROYS TAMPA: PERMANENTLY  CLOSED
