Today, my next stop in this food tour is a new local spot called BOSC Modern Bar + Kitchen. Now, this is a completely newly renovated building and they did a great job on the reno. I liked everything about BOSC Mosern Bar + Kitchen, but ultimately, my visit there was a major fail for me.They currently have a medium sized menu with very limited gluten-free options ranging from salads to pizzas, pastas, sushi and steaks. I was told the raw oysters, the grilled Gulf oysters, the kale salad and the braised Short Rib could be made gluten-free and nothing else. I did inqury about the crudo and aguachile and the sushi, even the sashimi and I was told it wasn't gluten-free at all. Any sushi or sashimi I ordered would just be served to me plain with nothing on it and no soy sauce etc.I asked what the market fish of the day was and apparently there was no fish even though it was on the menu. So, I opted for the cooked oysters to start. Now, our waitress was extremely helpful, she was asking the chef what I could actually have and had a great attitude.

So, I noticed there was risotto on the menu so I asked could I order that and she said that also wasn't truely on the menu either and they didn't have it. So, at that point she was like let me figure this out with the Chef because there has to be something you can have if you don't want the steak or short rib.
So, ultimately they said I could have some of the pasta dishes because the sauces were gluten-free and they had gluten-free pasta, but when I asked if the noodles would be boiled in their own pot and not in the same water the regular pasta was being boiled in the manager was like...yea, we can't do that either. He apologized.

So, I ended up with some cocktails, 3 orders  of grilled oysters and mashed potatoes with three grilled shrimp.
Here is my assessment:
The grilled oysters were a 4/5. I have to subtract 1 because my first order came out and they didn't even notice they gave me a complete roasted and empty oyster.

And secondly, it was not consistent. I had three sets of oysters come out to me and all three were made completely different with different seasonings every time even though there was only 1 style and 1 option of oyster. I did really like the first set of oysters I got, but they were too salty, the second was perfect then the third was completely different and made with entirely different seasonings and ingredients.

ORDER 2ORDER THREE

The shrimp and potatoes they simply made for me because they didn't want me to have nothing and I appreciated that. It's not really a menu item so I am not really going to say anything about it.Cocktails were a 5/5. They were really great craft cocktails and I would recommend this place for happy hour or brunch. My husband's food: Well, obviously he had a way better experience and he loved his pizza and everything else he had.Dinner was a fail for me, I actually ended up eating a grilled cheese when I got home. I wouldn't say it was a fail for BOSC because the manager was very empathetic and he was like I am going to work with the Chef to make the menu less hostile for people like you (Celiacs). He was like, it's unacceptable that we don't have better options for you other than the steak or Braised Short Rib as an entree. So, he was like "I hope you give us another chance" - and I am willing to.
I liked the restaurant a lot, outside of my dietary restrictions I don't see why anyone else wouldn't have an enjoyable time other than the inconsistencies with the oysters etc.
Anyway, May is Celiac Awarness Month and today, May 16th is Celiac Disease Awareness Day so I hope that this post brings awareness to anyone who reads it and gets to this point.
