It's our first night in Clearwater Beach; my old college stomping grounds. So much has changed since then though. The streets are no longer lined with sleepy little beach inns, but resemble more of a mini Miami Beach strip with less of the intimidation. This street is a long street that starts out full of whimsy and excitement and as you drive to the end its more quiet and calm. My husband and I used to frequent the further end of the strip when we were teens so I could get bikini shots without a million people watching and the parking lot vending machine actually paid out your change in Sacagawea coins.
I am quite happy to say though, Clearwater Beach has not lost its charm. We actually were visiting in time for Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival so the strip had way more activity than usual from a live band, to fire breathing performances, and sand castle carvings all weekend. We decided to visit a newish restaurant that opened last year and it wasn't clear that they could accommodate Celiacs; but we are here staying within walking distance so it was worth a chance!
