New Years Aircation Winter Park: Mosonori Winter Park | Sexy in Black & Red

Happy Saturday loves! Today's post is not in actuality finished because I never got any other photos in this outfit. The life of a Content Creator can be overwhelming sometimes as I am documenting things, planning things and a creating content sometimes only to not get a chance to even get a few decent shots of my outfit.

My two main enemies are Daylight savings time and rain and we are dealing with both. It rained like crazy today and the sun never really came out.

The outfit is cute though and I know you are wondering how many of these crochet outfits did I buy? I bought almost one in ever color. When I get a chance at sunlight I will get a few more shots of it.

Come with us to the newly opened 📍 @mosonori_ in Winter Park. This 31 seat Japanese handroll bar is pretty classy and three time nominated James Beard Award nominee, Chef Henry Moso serves up handrolls as well as an omakase option.

So, our experience was not moving to say. While we were able to come in and be seated with no reservation we didn't have a "great seat" it was at the end cap of the bar in front of a dispenser in which could have been beer or maybe sake.

Unfortunately, I failed to realize I had been to a restaurant in Orlando which was owned by the same restaurantuer in which they do not take any priority for people with Celiac Disease,  this is Kabuki Sushi in the Dr.Phillip's area. It's really really popular and while I really liked the restaurant and really wanted it to work for us the issue is that they do not priorize in any way gluten intolerance or Celiacs Disease.

Now, you may ask why should they or why do I expect it. One of the very reasons why I drive 55 miles back and forth to dine in Orlando is because Disney has such a prevalence here that when they declared (which I side eye now) that every one of their restaurants would have gluten-free options and everyone would be trained on cross contamination- a LOT of restaurants followed suit outside of Disney. Kabuki however is like...we are just gonna do us.

So, Orlando is and has always been the number one city where I could eat safely and get more than a protein and a veggie. Sarasota is actually the second because many older people also can't have gluten due to Celiacs and Diverticulitis (I have had both since I was in my early 20's) and so a lot of times my trips are predicated on where I can safely eat.

So, to say all that, I thought the restaurant was fire and it was almost everything I expected until our waitress came to me with the menu and said "Everything contains gluten except these four rolls". And I kind of shook my head in shock and I said, " are you saying only two things on this whole menu are gluten-free that actually contain fish?".

That would be a yes. According to her, almost everything is pre-batched on the menu. So, the two seafood handrolls I had were the only two actually made from scratch when you order it and while some may enjoy lots of mayo, I don't. So, I had the lobster roll which was mayo with claw meat in it and I didn't really like it.

Also, I wasn't given any type of gluten-free soy sauce (this also happened at Kabuki sushi also).

So, everything I was hoping for and wanted was out the window for this experience. Everything I saw on their Instagram since they opened in late November I couldnt even eat.

.My husband had everything in this post and I had two seafood handrolls, both which I didn't like. No one asked me if I wanted a cocktail either, so I basically watched him eat and he took me somewhere else afterwards.

In retrospect, I do think the restaurant is cool. I did like the aesthetic, but the disregard for people with Celiacs is kind of wild in Orlando. I left not feeling satiated and we went somewhere else where my husband had to deal with waiting for me to order and eat food. It's not a date if it's disjointed.

Dates and dinners are meant to be enjoyed together. Eating together.

If it were not for this issue my review would be somewhat different and I said this also when I went to Kabuki, the same exact thing happened. Had I have remembered they had the same owner I would have skipped it.

Winter Park has a ton of amazing restaurants (this is also one for some just not me) this was just my experience as a Celiac and my main goal is to help Celiacs find great gluten-free options and places to dine. People often do not like my candor, but I feel like if I can save someone like me the time and money or give them the chance to decide to decide "do I want to go here" or  "could I possibly get glutened"  then my review was worth it.

Unfortunately, only two seafood handrolls were gluten free. It was explained to me that everything has been pre-batched and contains soy or soy sauce, soy, or other gluten containing sauces in it and they only make these two from scratch when ordered. I personally found this to be shocking.

I only remember one of the two handrolls I had and both were so plain, they had no sauce, no seasoning, no anything. I think they just gave me a handroll with nothing really on it because nothing was gluten-free.

MOSO OMAKASE: This was not gluten free and my husband had this and the majority of the food at this dinner.

If you are wondering what hubs had to say about his meal since almost every photo was of his food, he said, " it was ok, I wouldn't come back, everything was plain". So, that's all I can add other than the fact that the second restaurant we went to we saw a few customers from this restaurant at; maybe they were still hungry or maybe they wanted more, I do not know. I have been to so many handroll spots and so many places that have more than this (two items containing seafood and two veggie only) for those with Celiacs and no gluten-free soy sauce.

It's literally a choice to not have more.
