This week we went to the cold opening of Hyde Park Villages newest restaurant, Bouzy by Cru Cellars. Nestled at the end of the street (near the parking garage) is a new small restaurant called Bouzy, named for a commune in France; known for its Pinot Noir grapes, the village of Bouzy is a location for champagne houses that offer tastings and cellar tours.

Bouzy combines elevated elegance of wines, champagnes, and cocktails with fresh seafood fare as well as curated poultries and other proteins. If you are a novice or an avid wine/champagne enthusiast their sommelier-trained bartenders will accommodate you to find something to fit your tastes.

I for one am a champagne girl myself, and have been known to indulge in Vuevue Cliquot every now and then which you can also get here by the glass.

Bouzy's cocktail and wine menu has 200 wine selections and also "light bites", charcuterie and cheese boards and lastly, main entree's carefully crafted by Executive Chef Erich Bach. You will find menu items such as Steamed Grouper, Lobster Bao Buns,  Snapper Crudo, Foie Gras Torchon, and last but not least the Caviar Sandwich with hackleback caviar, yolk, crème fraîche (I wish I could have a go at this), and much much more.

My experience as follows.

We came in during opening week (1 day after opening). I don't think I have been to an opening day or week at a restaurant that went so smoothly! Bouzy is located in Historic Hyde Park Village, which has so much charm as well as ample street parking and parking garages. Bouzy is actually right next to the parking garage, which makes it perfect, in my opinion. The restaurant wasn't that busy when we arrived with no reservation, by the way, but that will probably change when the date of the grand opening approaches (Feb 14th).

The menu is very interesting. Bouzy is brought to us by Cru Cellars, so you will find a lot of familiarity if you have dined at any of the Cru Cellars locations. For example, the Cesar salad tastes the same, and I love the Cesar at Cru. It is good here and it is a large size. The beet salad was great, very different, and my husband loved it. Obviously, with a name like Bouzy, you would expect there to be wines, champagne, and other spirits sold here. I found that the Veuve Cliquot Rosé and the single spoon of caviar for $49 was a great deal. The caviar was top grade and had a great creamy, smooth, nutty flavor with medium salinity. Although nothing is labeled gluten-free, I was able to get recommendations for what was gluten-free.  Since I have been gluten free since about 2011 I also know that I can NOT have miso which you will find in quite a few of the entrees, but it wasn't a huge issue. I believe this came up specifically for the whole Branzino and Shrimp cocktail, I could not have either of those dishes.

I found that the options are a little limited, but the Cioppino was great. It was loaded with lots of seafood, such as shrimp, mussels, clams, and stone crab claws. The price was great for that. I would highly recommend this restaurant and we will be back. Other items we had, which were all great, were the duck for 2 and the half dozen oysters with kimchi cocktail sauce. The price can get up there $$ to $$$ depending what you order. The aesthetic is clean and modern, and there is outdoor seating available.
