Downtown St. Pete
We finally dined at the new restaurant concept Alello. It was needless to say as great of an experience as it was when it was the 2 separate restaurants Alto Mare Fish and Annata. The wonderful outdoors seating is still the same.
The inside is very small, but it's very nice and spacious. The decor remoldle is well done; it is beautiful inside and has the structure of the kind of restaurants I have visited in Soho Manhattan. My favorite accent is the flamingo mural that is right over the bar. The seating in the bar area is very very inviting and fancy in my opinion, I was given the option to pick my table and I knew I wanted to sit in there immediately.
As far as the food goes the menu is small. I actually was hesitant to even visit because the menu didn't have anything I wanted on it when they first opened. Well, I am glad I waited because 1. it gives them time to get up and running at a good pace and they are more likely to have all the food items listed available and 2.They added a few things to the menu that got me in the door.
Everything we had was gluten free except my husband's flatbread. The food is served like tapas and then at the bottom of the menu there are three items that are for the table which can feed 2 to 4 or 5 to 6 people.
Everything we tried we loved except the oysters. The oysters were just ok, the mignonette was really sweet and I'm more into a tart acidic or even spicy mignonette; the oysters were just ok without it or with the cocktail sauce so honestly, that was the only one we agreed we could have skipped (and I believe the most expensive).
Cucumber, yogurt, mint, dill
The stand out to me was the crudo. You know a crudo is standing out to me if I order a second one. It had the right level of saltiness that I love. The texture was firm and it wasn't served cold, but just room temperature and the accompaniments were just right. For the price you get 7 pieces of Snapper which is fair. It's served in a cucumber water which was interesting, I have never had that before. It didn't add much, but it was a nice refreshing flavor that the fish picked up as an after taste.
I would come here again just for the Snapper crudo to be honest. The steamed clams were what I expected. I liked the sauce/juice so much I took it with me to eat eat home with gluten free crispy bread.
Feta, red onion,
The bone marrow flatbread from what I was told is pretty interesting, hubs loved it. The second stand out is the octopus. If you dine here you must must must try it. It is one of the larger tapas.
Well, we were about to start our next road trip so we were about in peak party mode by the end of dinner so we got dessert. I was going to skip because I am not big on desserts, but our waitress convinced me they had a gluten free dessert that was just right for me based off of the cocktails I ordered. She was right. I honestly don't even know exactly what it was because it tasted like sorbet to me, but it was a cold citrus type of sorbet with geleé and different things on the plate to combine with it. It was only 10$ but it was packing a small punch for me without leaving me overly full.
My husband however, got the bread pudding with ice cream which was great and it did him in lol.
I can't wait to come back here.
